Who is DOCK9?
DOCK9 is a video production studio working out of Toronto and Hamilton, offering agency producing, production, photography, and post-production. They have worked with Mitsubishi Motors, Cadbury, Wattpad, and Heart & Stroke, among others.
What were the main goals for this new website?
DOCK9 had sixteen years of work behind them and no public presence to show for it. Production studios often work that way, because the briefs arrive through agency relationships and nobody asks for a website. The cost of it only appears when the studio wants to be chosen directly rather than recommended.
There was no brand framework and no established voice to build from, so the project started before the website did. We had to define how DOCK9 positions itself for an international audience, and then build a digital experience that communicates what the studio can do before anybody has read a word.

Our Approach
Positioning and brand framework
With nothing existing to work from, we started by defining who DOCK9 is for and what separates them from every other production studio. Every decision after that point, from architecture through to interface, traces back to it.
Information architecture
We structured the site around how agencies and brands actually evaluate a production studio, so the work does the arguing before the copy has to.
An experience, not a brochure
A studio that sells visual work has to demonstrate it on arrival. The brief was for an experience that communicates DOCK9's capability before a single line is read, and the build was designed around that from the start.
Custom CMS
A fully custom CMS gives the DOCK9 team complete control over their content. New work, new sections, and updates are theirs to publish.
